» History of brick

Archaeologists maintain that brick was first made in Mesopotamia. However, brick was created after discovery of fire and in areas with quarries. As raw materials of brick are usually found in river banks; therefore, this principle proves that production of brick dates back to civilizations formed in Nile river valley and near Tigris-Euphrates or even before that.

Archaeologists have found the first unbaked bricks under soil and in Nile river banks which date back to 13,000 BC, and some other archaeologists have stated that 85,000,000 bricks were used in tower of Babel.

Also some evidence about workload distribution proves that industrial manufacture of brick dates long back before industrial revolution. Beautiful and amazing samples of architecture in ancient Iran proves that Iranians were pioneers in manufacture and engineering application of this building material. Chogha Zanbil ziggurat, Taq Kasra (also known as Ayvan-e Kasra or Archway of Ctesiphon), Firoozabad and Lorestan Palaces which were constructed before rise of Islam, and also Jame mosques of Esfahan, Yazd, Gonbadekavoos, and Arg of Tabriz which are constructed after rise of Islam are a few of these samples. There are documents which prove rustic brick was used in construction minarets, etc. in 4,000 years ago, and 3,000 BC brick with different colors was produced.

In Greece brick was replaced with stone but it was manufactured and in 5,000 BC roof brick was made and is still used in the same way. Roof clay brick with width of 50 cm, length of 80 cm and / or 100 cm are found which can be tied together.
